Relationship between architectural design and fashion trends

At its roots, Organic Architecture is the original style of structure for humankind. Over the centuries, its methods and ideals developed due to a wealth of creators

The subtle relationship between fashion and architecture or the interior design industry has continually evolved over the past years. Whether it is the stores, branding, color theory, or the patterns, there has been a huge clash of the similarities between these two esteemed industries in the world.

In the past, some renowned architects like Luis Barragan have creatively fused the fashion trends into the architectural and the interior world while setting a perfect example for the generation of designers to come.

Complementing the growth of the two industries, technology has taken a major toll in making lives simpler. Now that the digital world is taking over the old-school magazines and catalogs – designers across the world are aware of the latest trends to incorporate. There has never been a time that the two industries have been so inspired by each other than now.

Fashion and Architecture or interior industries tend to leave a major impact on each other. Sometimes, it is a certain color scheme that sparks joy or else a major texture or pattern that tends to win the hearts of the homeowners decorating their homes. For example, fashion designer Yung Wong admires Zaha Hadid’s style use of geometric patterns to incorporate it in some of her graphic designs. Similarly, UAE is one of the hubs for fashion as well as architecture or interior design industry. The majestic skyscrapers stand high – further refining the fashion portfolio of the country. Nevertheless, there may still be a few differences that set both industries apart.

Similarities and Differences in the Fashion and Architecture Industry

One of the major differences between the two industries is the expenses incurred. It is quite easier and cheaper to replace an old-fashioned costume with a new one, unlike the interiors of your bedroom, living room, or kitchen which is expensive to replace. Secondly, the fashion industry is mainly reigned by the economic and social aspects along with the local region and culture, whereas the interior and architecture industry is highly irrespective of the social and cultural forms, although the local topography may differ.

One noteworthy example is the boutique interior design studio called Roar that is based out in Dubai. Their intricate works and play with textures, patterns, colors, and shadows are a perfect inspiration drawn from the fashion industry that not only are aesthetically appealing but also steps up as a landmark in the industries.

A major similarity between the two industries is the freedom of expression. They both constitute of a concept where an individual can freely express themselves and their beliefs and thoughts. Style is another major form of expression. Whether it is a glam-style velvet sofa or a Ralph Lauren floor-touching dress, the skin in itself is a major way to express. Blending this freedom with accessibility, the latest trends of both the industries are readily available to each and everyone around the globe.
